Consumer Law Advocates (formerly CLARO), Fordham student group seeks to raise awareness in the Fordham Law School community about the legal issues surrounding the field of consumer debt. Students learn about consumer debt issues while assisting attorneys at the Manhattan CLARO (Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office) project. The Manhattan CLARO project is a walk-in clinic that has been operating for five years through the administration of the Feerick Center for Social Justice at Fordham Law School, the New York County Lawyers' Association and the New York City Bar. CLARO offers free legal advice to consumers being sued by creditors in civil court. Fordham CLARO members assist attorneys at the weekly CLARO clinic by providing administrative support. Students who participate in CLARO get hands-on experience in consumer debt issues while helping unrepresented litigants and interacting with practicing attorneys and fellow Fordham Law School students.
