Fordham Law, Lawdragon Rank Fordham Among Nation's Best

March 23, 2007

In two new rankings released this week, professionals in the legal community have ranked Fordham Law both among the nation's best law schools and its most underrated.

Legal Recruiters Rank Fordham as Nation's 2nd Most Underrated

Legal recruiting professionals surveyed by career publisher named Fordham Law as the nation's 2nd most underrated law school. More than 500 recruiters, including law firm recruiting managers, law firm hiring partners, and corporate counsel, were asked to name law schools that produce excellent graduates but are not given enough credit for their work.

Fordham was the only school in the New York Tri-State region to be ranked in the top 25. The poll results also included excerpts of comments from surveyed recruiters. One recruiting professional said of Fordham Law, "In our experience, Fordham students and graduates are at the top of the profession, on par with graduates of Ivy League law schools."

Fordham Law 21st in US for Nation's Best Plaintiffs' Lawyers

Fordham Law was also ranked as the nation's 21st best law school by Lawdragon, an online legal community featuring lawyer rankings and legal news. Lawdragon's rankings were based on the number of alumni of each law school who are included in the Lawdragon 500, a list of the nation's top plaintiffs' lawyers compiled by a survey of the legal community.

Fordham Law's Strong Record of Placement, Employment Success

Fordham Law has long enjoyed placement success and a strong reputation among legal recruiting professionals. Fordham Law is one of the country's top 5 schools in terms of the number of attorneys working at the nation's 30 most successful law firms (as identified by the 2006 American Lawyer rankings). The other schools in the top 5 are Harvard, NYU, Columbia, and Georgetown.

"These new rankings come as no surprise," said William Michael Treanor, Dean and Professor of Law. "Fordham Law has long been known as one of the nation's top law schools by the people whose opinion matters most--the hiring partners and recruiters who rely on our graduates to be exceptional attorneys, grounded with both a strong theoretical background and solid practical experience in the skills of lawyering."

"Fordham Law is simply one of the nation's best training grounds for lawyers," Treanor said. "The word is getting out."

Located steps from Manhattan's Lincoln Center, Fordham Law is one of only seven schools in the nation to have more than one top-ranked program in the three areas of legal education: core substantive areas (business and international law), the craft of lawyering (clinical legal education and dispute resolution), and legal theory (legal history and law and philosophy).
