Alumnus Presented with Service Award at Law Day Luncheon

Robert P. Whelan FC' 44 Law '46 received the Fordham Law Alumni Association's Second Harvest Award at the annual Law Day Luncheon on April 27.

The Milton Fisher '42 Second Harvest Award was created by Mr. Fisher to recognize alumni who graduated from Fordham Law more than 50 years ago who have remained active and engaged in their profession or community.

Mr. Whelan began his career at the Legal Aid Society and worked in several areas of the legal community, specializing in maritime law at the firm of Foley, Grainger & Darby. He has consistently been active in public service, including a run for Congress in the 1950s. Through 2006, he wrote a column for the Bay Ridge Home Reporter called “Vox Populi,” focusing on local, national, and international political analysis.

Previous recipients of the Second Harvest award include Professor Joseph McGovern '33, Grace Corcoran Kennedy '40, Edward Guardaro '46, Denis McInerney '51, Frank P. Lucianna '51, and the Honorable Gregory Castano '53.
