Fordham Law School Launches $100 Million Campaign with More Than $73 Million Already Raised; Gala Kickoff Held November 14November 14, 2008
Fordham Law School has launched an ambitious $100 million fund-raising campaign with the two largest single gifts in the school's history: $5 million each from alumni T.J. Maloney '79 and Thomas A. Moore '72. Already, the school has raised $73.6 million toward the campaign — one of the largest in the history of American legal education — which will support scholarships, faculty chairs, law school centers, a new law school building, and student services. A gala celebrating the campaign kickoff took place November 14 at the New York Public Library.
"The generosity of Mr. Moore and Mr. Maloney is a statement of their faith in the future of our school and its educational mission," said Fordham Law's Dean William Michael Treanor. "These are historic gifts for this institution. Coming as they do at a time of economic turmoil, they represent a profound commitment to Fordham Law School and demonstrate the importance of philanthropy during a time of financial uncertainty."
Maloney is president of Lincolnshire Management, a leading private equity investment firm. Moore, of Kramer, Dillof, Livingston & Moore, is one of the nation’s leading trial attorneys.
"It was our hope," said Maloney, "that these gifts would inspire others to support the good work Fordham Law does, and it does a lot of it. It is a place that makes a difference in the lives of people both inside and outside of the school. I know it made a difference in my life, and I am grateful that it did."
Moore said, "Fordham's gift to me dwarfs mine to Fordham. This beautiful building will symbolize the strides our law school has made into the highest echelons of legal education."
Long-time supporters of the school, Moore and Maloney had previously endowed faculty chairs.
"Based on the unparalleled giving levels we have achieved over the past five years, $100 million is a realizable campaign goal," said Julie A. Lucas, Fordham Law's Assistant Dean of Institutional Advancement. "I am confident we can achieve it."
