Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP Makes $1 Million Gift to Fordham Law Campaign

December 22, 2008

Fordham Law has received a $1 million gift from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. The gift will fund the Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP Classroom in the new law school building. The building is a centerpiece of Fordham Law's $100 million fund-raising campaign. Fordham Law, which announced the ambitious campaign in November, has already raised $77.5 million. In addition to the new law school building, the campaign will support scholarships, faculty chairs, law school centers, and student services.

"This significant gift sends a strong and clear message about the powerful appeal of Fordham Law's educational mission," said Fordham Law Dean William Michael Treanor. "The generosity of Weil Gotshal is remarkable, coming as it does in the midst of an economic downturn. I am grateful beyond measure for their commitment to Fordham Law."

Three Fordham Law alumni played leadership roles in the firm's decision to make the $1 million gift: James W. Quinn '71, Andrea A. Bernstein '77, and Salvatore Romanello '97.

Quinn co-chairs Weil Gotshal's 500-lawyer global Litigation/Regulatory practice. He serves on the Board of the Fordham Law Alumni Association.

Bernstein is a senior corporate partner with a corporate, securities law and governance practice. She serves on the Dean's Planning Council at Fordham Law.

Romanello is a partner in the Litigation/Regulatory department focusing on complex commercial disputes, including arbitration. He serves on the Board of the Fordham Law Alumni Association.

"Fordham Law is in the midst of one of the largest campaigns in the history of American legal education," said Julie A. Lucas, Fordham Law's Assistant Dean of Institutional Advancement. "I am thankful for the leadership and generosity of Weil, Gotshal and Manges LLP, and I hope their gift will inspire other firms to rally in support of our $100 million campaign."
