Fordham Law Alumna Honored for Outstanding LeadershipMay 14, 2010
Alycia M. Guichard '04 received Rutgers University's 2010 Ernest McMahon Award for her outstanding leadership in extending the educational resources of the university to the people of New Jersey through the Street Law Program. Guichard is Director and New Jersey Bar Foundation Fellow for Street Law, which places law students in urban schools and youth facilities to educate teenagers about the law and civic engagement.
"In just three years, Alycia Guichard has developed Street Law from a loosely-structured student initiative into a nationally recognized program that connects the law school to educators and youth in the urban centers of Northern New Jersey," said Rutgers Associate Dean Fran Bouchoux.
Through Guichard's vision and resourcefulness, Street Law continues to
evolve. This year the program will expand to include the Street Law Summer Enrichment Law Academy, an interactive educational forum developed in conjunction with the Institute for Pre-College Education and Community Outreach, which is part of the Rutgers-Newark Academic Foundations Center.
After graduating from Fordham Law, Guichard received a two-year post-graduate public interest fellowship from Georgetown Law to teach in its Street Law Clinic.
In 2008, Guichard received the Young Lawyer of the Year Award by the Young Lawyers Division of the New Jersey State Bar Association.
