Fordham Law Alumni Honored with Pro Bono Award

October 28, 2009

Fordham Law alumni Peter L. Curry '78 and Keith E. Danish '77 received the Lawyer's Alliance for New York's 2009 Cornerstone Award on October 27. The award recognizes legal professionals who have provided outstanding pro bono legal services to nonprofit organizations.

Curry was honored for his efforts assisting Services Now for Adult Persons (SNAP), a nonprofit agency dedicated to improving the quality of life of older adults in Queens by providing direct services and linkages to community resources. Curry has worked with SNAP since 2006 and most recently helped the organization acquire new facility space.

"Peter Curry is a smart, kind, knowledgable, dedicated, compassionate, and superior ally to have on your side," said Linda Leest, SNAP's Executive Director. "Without his support, I would not have been able to negotiate the agreement and the building project would not be moving forward."

Danish was honored for his efforts assisting Jazzmobile, a multifaceted outreach organization that provides educational programs to help minority and non-minority children and adults develop technical and musical skills related to the jazz tradition. When Mr. Danish began working with Jazzmobile, the organization's name had not yet been trademarked. Mr. Danish helped to secure trademarks for the Jazzmobile name nationally and internationally and also secured the trademark for the organization's “Jazzy Award.”

"He's absolutely wonderful! He’s perfection," said Jazzmobile’s Executive Director Raves Robin Bell-Stevens of Danish. "Keith is also a jazz aficionado, so he is very communicative and knowledgeable about the music."
