Fordham Law Alumni Receive Attorneys of the Year Award

May 11, 2009

Brian J. McCarthy '78 and Stacy Horth-Neubert '98 were among a group of 43 lawyers recently named winners of the California Lawyer Attorneys of the Year Awards (CLAY) by California Lawyer magazine. The awards recognize lawyers throughout California whose work in 13 areas of legal practice made a profound impact in 2008.

McCarthy was selected in the entertainment category for his representation of Santa Monica-based Activision in its $18.9 billion business combination with Paris-based Vivendi Games, resulting in the creation of Activision Blizzard. The complex cross-border deal took many months to negotiate.

Horth-Neubert and her colleague Jason Russell won in the pro bono category for their work in defeating a challenge to the Los Angeles Unified School District's successful magnet school program. They acted as co-counsel with the ACLU of Southern California.

Both McCarthy and Horth-Neubert work in the Los Angeles office of Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. McCarthy, a partner in the firm, works primarily on corporate and securities matters, with particular emphasis on mergers, acquisitions, corporate governance issues and restructurings.

Horth-Neubert is counsel in the Litigation Group. Her practice involves a broad spectrum of complex commercial litigation including class actions, securities, antitrust, unfair business practices, contracts, sports, entertainment and international arbitration.
