Assistant Dean Nitza Escalera Honored by Puerto Rican Bar Association

The Puerto Rican Bar Association will honor Fordham Law's Assistant Dean of Student Affairs, Nitza M. Escalera, with the Outstanding Achievement in Academia Award at its 52nd Anniversary Scholarship Fund Gala Banquet on May 14, 2009 at the New York City Hilton. The award recognizes Escalera's professional accomplishments and commitment to enriching the lives of law students.

The event honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the Puerto Rican and other Latino communities and raises funds to provide scholarship grants to outstanding law students. The other 2009 awardees will be Hon. Sonia Sotomayor, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; William Brewer III, Esq., partner, Bickel & Brewer; Daniel R. Alonso, Esq., partner, Kaye Scholer; and Ululy Rafael Martinez, Esq, director of Government Affairs, NYC Cablevision.

The Puerto Rican Bar Association, Inc. (PRBA), was founded in 1957 to address the concerns of a rapidly growing Latino community and the legal services it required. Today, the PRBA's 500 members represent the interests of attorneys, judges, law professors, and students of Latino descent who share a common interest in fostering professional development in the legal community and addressing important issues to the Latino community as a whole.
