Arriving in New York City

Students generally arrive in New York City via one of the major international airports—John F. Kennedy International and Newark International Airport—or LaGuardia Airport if flying domestically.  Each airport has information desks to help students plan their travel into New York City.  Students should consult http://www.panynj.gov/airports/ before traveling to New York for information on getting from the New York City area airports to New York City.

Transportation in and around New York City

New York City boasts an extensive and affordable public transportation system.  Taxicabs are also widely available.  Most residents do not own a car and rely exclusively on public transportation.  Some helpful websites for getting around NYC include:

  • HopStop (provides door-to-door directions and maps using public transportation)
  • MTA (provides bus and subway maps, as well as any service advisories concerning NYC public transportation)

  • Long Island Railroad (information on the railroad servicing areas between NYC and Long Island)

  • New Jersey Transit (information on the railroad servicing areas between NYC and New Jersey)

  • PATH (information on the railroad servicing areas between NYC and northern New Jersey) 

  • Metro North Railroad (information on the railroad servicing Connecticut and other areas north of NYC)

  • AMTRAK (information on the railroad servicing areas between NYC and various cities across the country)

  • Greyhound (information on the bus servicing areas between NYC and various cities across the country)

The Fordham Law School Neighborhood

Fordham Law School is situated in the heart of Lincoln Center on Manhattan's Upper West Side.  This neighborhood, considered the performing arts capital of New York, offers upscale shopping, a myriad of performance venues, and a quick escape into Central Park.  Immediately to the south of campus, the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood is renowned as one of the New York's top nighttime destinations.

Certain local businesses offer a discount to Fordham students who present their ID card, including the following:

  • J. Crew (The Shops at Columbus Circle; Broadway between 58th and 60th Streets)
  • The Flame Diner (Corner of 58th Street and 9th Avenue)

  • Alan's Marketplace (27 Columbus Avenue, between 60th and 61st Streets)

  • Strokos Pizza (Corner of 58th Street and 10th Avenue)

  • Starbucks (59th Street and Columbus Avenue)

  • The Olympic Flame Diner (60th Street and 10th Avenue)
