INTERDISCIPLINARY FELLOWSHIPS
INTERDISCIPLINARY FELLOWS are welcomed into the life of their placement organizations and Fordham and are made full partners in our work. Fellows are invited to participate in our research projects and in the planning of our numerous events. We also schedule monthly brown bag lunches for Fellows and our Affiliated Faculty to which stutents are warmly welcomed.
Gerald C. Durr Fellowships
Full School Year Commitment; $2000 stipend per semester.
Durr Fellows are placed at Lawyers for Children, an organization dedicated to protecting the rights of children in foster care, and in proceedings concerning the termination of parental rights, adoption, guardianship, custody and visitation.
Law student Durr Fellows learn practical lawyering skills including ensuring compliance with court orders; drafting motions, memos and briefs; conducting legal research; going to Family Court; maintaining client contact; and interacting with legal and social work staff. Social work student Durr Fellows interact with and support clients; provide consultation to lawyers; find and help clients access services; and do research.
LSNY-Highbridge Fellowships
One or Two Semester Commitment or Summer; $2000 stipend per semester or $3300 for the summer.
LSNY-Highbridge Fellows work at Legal Services of New York/Bronx assisting lawyers representing parents seeking to regain custody of their children from foster care and to care for them adequately in the community.
Law student LSNY-Highbridge Fellows provide advice and advocacy to low-income families with child welfare, housing, government benefits, immigration, domestic violence & other legal problems. LSNY-Highbridge Fellows are actively involved in community advocacy and work with social work staff. Social work student LSNY-Highbridge fellows interact with and support clients; provide consultation to lawyers; find and help clients access services; and do research.
The Ann Moynihan Fellowship
Two Semester Commitment Preferred; $2000 stipend per semester.
The Ann Moynihan Fellows work at The Door - A Center for Alternatives. At The Door, fellows assist lawyers in providing a broad range of counseling and advocacy services in civil cases to youth between ages 12 and 21.
Fellows work with youth on issues such as public benefits, family matters, immigration, employment and the rights of youth in foster care. The Ann Moynihan Fellowship is available to law students only.
