News Flash!

The Department of Education just announced that the Direct Consolidation Loan (DCL) applications that are in process now are on hold until July 1, 2009. The DOE anticipates a decrease in interest rates on loans being consolidated and wants applicants to understand that the interest rate on the Direct Consolidation Loan, if the borrower’s application is approved, will be the weighted average of the interest rates of the loans being consolidated, rounded up to the nearest one-eighth of one percent (not to exceed 8.25%). This will be the fixed interest rate of the loan for the life of the Direct Consolidation Loan.

Processing of Direct Loan Applications will resume on July 1, 2009. DCL applications received and approved after June 30, 2009 will be based the new annual rates for any of the variable rate education loans being consolidated.
