TERMS OF YOUR PRIVATE & INSTITUTIONAL LOANS
Private Loans
- Variable rates - between approximately 4.5% and 9.5%.
- Grace period: 6-9 months
- Repayment term: 15-20 years
- Technically no deferment option but forbearance at the lender's discretion.
- As with Federal loans, no penalty for prepaying your loan.
- Generally, the private loans are the more expensive education loans and you should pay them down first.
Fordham Revolving Fund Loans
- This program has been made self-sustaining by the repayments of the loans that have been made in past years.
- It is subsidized, no interest accrues until repayment.
- 8% fixed interest rate.
- Repayment period varies by amount borrowed, but generally 3-20 years.
- For May graduates, repayment begins on January 1st.
- Deferment can be obtained by contacting kkeenan@law.fordham.edu.
- As with the other loans, there is no pre-payment penalty.
- One-on-one exit interview with Kathy Keenan prior to graduation is required.

- Payments may be made on-line any time, 24/7.
- Repayment incentives for the Fordham Revolving Fund Loans include the following:
- .25% interest rate reduction for automatic bill payment
- 2% interest rate reduction for 48 on-time payments
- Loans are eligible for Fordham's Loan Forgiveness Program.
