The New York Bar Foundation

The New York Bar Foundation has established a Trusts and Etates Law Section Fellowship to provide students with an opportunity to experience trusts and estates law practice. The $5,000 fellowship will be awarded to each of two second-year law students, one to spend the summer of 2011 (10 weeks, June 6 - August 13, 2011) in the Chambers of the Honorable Barbara Howe, Erie County Surrogate's Court in Buffalo, NY and the other to spend the summer of 2011 in the Chambers of the Honorable John M. Czygier, Jr., Suffolk County Surrogate's Court in Riverhead, NY.

Applications will be judged on a number of factors including content and quality of application materials, demonstrated interest in trusts and estates law, work experience, acaemic record, leadership experience, extracurricular activities and community service, and on maturity, integrity and professionalism.

All application materials must be submitted by mail and postmarked on or before Monday, January 31, 2011.

Applicants must submit the following: 

a completed application (available in Fordham Law's Financial Aid Office)
cover letter of interest
unofficial undergraduate and law school transcripts
two letters of recommendation
one writing sample on any topic related to the law (between 5 -10 typed pages double-spaced
