The J.L. Turner Legal Association, the African-American Bar Association in Dallas, Texas,established its scholarships to provide financial assistance to minority law students who have a connection to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and expose students to the Dallas-Fort Worth legal community. Many past scholarship recipients are now members of JLTLA and practicing in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
JLTLA sponsors two types of Minority Law Student Scholarships: merit and financial need. Merit scholarships will be awarded primarily on academic standing. To determine financial need scholarship winners, JLTLA will consider the applicant’s need, disadvantaged circumstances, community involvement and other factors. To be eligible, the applicant must be a (1)U.S. citizen, (2)have a connection to the Dallas-Fort Worth area, (3)be enrolled in an accredited U. S. law school and (4)be in good academic standing. Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged, but not required, to attend the Gala in Dallas, Texas, on October 15, 2011. The deadline for submitting an application, certified copy of your law school transcript and any other required materials is September 15, 2011.
