Patty Shwartz is a United States Magistrate Judge for the District of New Jersey. She was appointed to this position on March 10, 2003.

After attending public schools in New Jersey, Judge Shwartz graduated from Rutgers College with highest honors and from the University of Pennsylvania Law School, where she was a member of the Law Review.

After a short time in private practice in Philadelphia, Judge Shwartz clerked for the Hon. Harold A. Ackerman, United States District Judge for the District of New Jersey. Thereafter, and until her appointment to the bench, she served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the United States Attorney in the District of New Jersey. While at the U.S. Attorney’s Office, she held various supervisory positions, including Chief of the Criminal Division and Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney.
