Job Experience
Silvia Hodges was awarded the first PhD in law firm marketing. Her thesis “Marketing legal services to mid-size companies” examined marketing and buying of legal services in the context of medium-sized companies from theoretical and empirical perspectives. She received a scholarship from the German department of Education and Research for her research.Dr. Hodges is currently a full-time faculty member at Emerson College in Boston, MA, where she teaches in the department of marketing communication. In May 2008 she introduced the first four-credit university course in professional/legal services marketing.
She conducted a number of studies on international buying behavior, including Europe (Germany, UK, France, Italy), Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Peru), and the US for LexisNexis, American Lawyer Media, the Legal Marketing Association and other publications.
Prior to entering academia, Dr. Hodges worked as a marketing manager and consultant to a number of law firms, mostly in continental Europe.
Dr. Hodges founded the network Legal Marketing Italia (www.legalmarketing.it) and serves as an editorial board member of Strategies-The Journal of Legal Marketing for the Legal Marketing Association (LMA) (www.legalmarketing.org).
