Professor Maresca is an Associate Clinical Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law. She is the Supervising Attorney of the Tax & Consumer Litigation Clinic, supervising students and teaching the accompanying seminar. Professor Maresca also teaches courses in Income Taxation and Fundamental Lawyer Skills.

Professor Maresca has more than a dozen years of experience as a tax attorney, specializing in federal tax controversy and litigation against the Internal Revenue Service. Before joining Fordham University, Professor Maresca spent almost three years working as a Manager in the tax controversy departments of private sector firms. She also spent over six years as Trial Attorney for the Internal Revenue Service Office of Chief Counsel. As Senior Trial Attorney, Professor Maresca represented the IRS Commissioner in numerous cases before the United States Tax Court and worked on several large international and domestic corporate transaction cases, including United Parcel Service v. Commissioner, Federal National Mortgage Association v. Commissioner, and Nestle v. Commissioner. During her tenure with the IRS, Professor Maresca received the Chief Counsel's Special Act Award three times. Additionally, she conceived, proposed, and implemented the Take our Daughters to Work Day Program at the IRS, which allowed the girls to participate in mock trials.

Education

  • Professor Maresca received her L.L.M. in Taxation and her Juris Doctor from the New York University School of Law in 1997 and 1991, respectively.
  • A Fordham graduate, Professor Maresca received her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics in 1988. While at Fordham, she was an active member of the school's swimming team and on the Dean's List. In 1988, she was awarded the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete Award.
