Dispute Resolution Society members Eric Bernstein '13, Lauren Lombardo '13, Sara Petranek '13, and Sally Winters '13 placed fourth at the International Competition for Mediation Advocacy in Toronto.

During the four-day competition, all four members advanced through three preliminary rounds, besting schools from around the world. Petranek and Winters then represented Fordham Law in the quarterfinals—where they received perfect scores—and in the semifinals.

The ICMA team

At the ICMA, students act as both lawyers and clients working toward solutions with the aid of a neutral mediator. "Our teams spent six intense weeks preparing for the competition and their hard work certainly paid off, as they were phenomenal throughout the week. In the face of stiff competition in the preliminary rounds they advanced to the quarter and then semifinals where they performed exceptionally well and did Fordham proud," said coach John Tschirgi '12.

Team members were supported by Professors Jacqueline Nolan-Haley, Beth Schwartz, Peggy Leibowitz, and Deborah Shapiro. Society Chairperson Kaitlyn Kerrane ‘12, Managing Editor Amanda Broitman ’12, Competitions Editor Tavish DeAtley ’12 and Negotiations Editor Stephanie Baez ‘12 provided the team with valuable assistance throughout their preparation.
