
Meditation Clinic(4 credits- 3 seminar, 1 clinic) (optional second semester - 1 casework credit)Nolan-Haley Students in this clinic have an opportunity to mediate cases in Small Claims Court. The course requires weekly seminars, in which the legal, policy and professional responsibility issues of mediation are explored. Students mediate a variety of disputes including landlord-tenant, employer-employee, and defective goods and services cases. In addition to mediation casework, primary emphasis is placed on the non-adversarial role of the lawyer as mediator, although the role of the attorney as an advocate does arise. Securities Arbitration Clinic(5 credits - 2 seminar, 3 casework)Gardner and Silverman This clinic allows students to represent clients in securities arbitrations at the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD). Students interested in corporate and securities law are given the opportunity to counsel clients, draft legal documents and develop their advocacy skills while deepening their substantive knowledge of securities laws and becoming acquainted with the functioning of the securities industry. |
