Frequently Asked Questions

How can I apply for the Externship Program?
You must first secure a placement. You must fill out our online application and e-mail your resume and unofficial transcript to Externships@law.fordham.edu. You may not register yourself for the program.

Can I be paid for my work during my externship?
No.  In a few cases, students may receive stipends and fellowship money. Please visit our Earning Credits page for more information.

What are the requirements of the Externship Program?

Time Requirement: 140 hours during the fall and spring semesters for two (2) credits pass/fail; 160 hours during the summer semester.
Seminar Requirement: You must take a mandatory one (1) credit graded course that meets seven (7) times during the fall and spring semesters and four (4) times during the summer semester. The seminar's grade is contingent on class participation and writing assingments and/or presentations.

How do I get my externship placment approved?

Your Supervising Attorney must fill out the Supervising Attorney Application and submit it to Faculty Director, Beth Schwartz.
Can I participate in more than one externship?

Yes.  However, you may not work at the same placement more than once.

Can I participate in an extenship and a clinic in the same semester?

No.
