Spring 2010 Clinic Offerings

COMMUNITY ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework) One semester with the possibility of a second semester. 
Seminar meets on Tuesdays from 3:00-5:50 p.m. 
Prof. Glick and Prof. Givhan.

Pre or Co-requisite:  Fundamental Lawyering Skills.
Recommended:  Corporations, Nonprofit Organizations, Professional Responsibility, Urban Land Use.


CRIMINAL DEFENSE
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). One semester with the possibility of a second semester.
Seminar meets Mondays from 2:00-4:50 p.m. 
Students must be available for casework on Wednesdays from 9:00-10:50 a.m. 
Prof. Bader and Prof. Rayner.

Prerequisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills.
Recommended: Criminal Procedure, Professional Responsibility, Trial Advocacy and/or Evidence


FAMILY ADVOCACY
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Wednesday s from 10:00 a.m.-12:50 p.m. 
Prof. Hill for the Law School
Prof. Ho for the Graduate School of Social Service. 

Pre or Co-requisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills.



FEDERAL LITIGATION
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Tuesdays from 2:00-3:50 p.m. 
Prof. Cohen and Prof. Martin.

Prerequisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills.
Recommended: Evidence, Trial Advocacy, and Professional Responsibility.



HOUSING RIGHTS
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-8:20 p.m.
Students are expected to be in court one morning per week (M-TR).
Prof. Pearce and Prof. Seidman.

Students will work mainly out of the Legal Aid Society’s Manhattan Housing Court Office.  Knowledge of Spanish is a plus.

Pre- or co-requisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills, except that this requirement may be waived upon a showing that the student has completed equivalent training.


INTERNATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Thursdays from 2:00-3:50 pm. 
Prof. Mgbako.

There are no prerequisites for this clinic although a basic introductory course in International Human Rights is strongly recommended.  This clinic is part of the Leitner Center


INTERNATIONAL SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT 
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Mondays from 2:00-3:50 p.m. 
Prof. Galizzi and Prof. Herklotz

There are no prerequisites for this clinic. This clinic is part of the Leitner Center.



MEDIATION
4 credits (3 seminar, 1 fieldwork). 
Seminar meets on Tuesdays from 2 to 4:50 p.m.
Prof. Nolan-Haley.

Fieldwork takes place in Small Claims Court on Wednesdays from 6:30-9:20 p.m.  
Students can choose between Bronx, Manhattan and Queens Small Claims Court.

Recommended: Fundamental Lawyering Skills.

SAMUELSON-GLUSHKO INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AND INFORMATION LAW CLINIC
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework)
Seminar meets on Mondays from 10:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.
Prof. Lazebnik

Prerequisites:  Fundamental Lawyering Skills; and one or more of the following IPIL courses: Intellectual Property Law, Copyright Law, Trademark Law and/or Patent Law.
Recommended: Evidence, Professional Responsibility


SECURITIES ARBITRATION
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Wednesdays from 10:00-11:50 a.m.
Students must be available for casework on Mondays from 9:00-11:50 a.m. 
Prof. Radvany and Prof. Gardner .

Prerequisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills.



SOCIAL JUSTICE
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets Mondays from 2:00-3:50 p.m.
Profs. Feerick, Galacatos, and Solimene.

Pre or Co-requisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills. 
This clinic is part of the Feerick Center for Social Justice


TAX & CONSUMER LITIGATION
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets on Thursdays from 10:30 to 12:20 p.m. 
Prof. Maresca and Prof. Silverman.

Prerequisite: Fundamental Lawyering Skills
Strongly Recommended: Income Taxation
Relevant courses: Bankruptcy, Consumer Protection, New York Practice, Real Estate, Commercial Law, Professional Responsibility, Evidence.



URBAN POLICY & LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY
5 credits (2 seminar, 3 casework). 
Seminar meets on Tuesdays from 4:00-5:50 p.m.
