Fordham Law School’s Supreme Court Admission Ceremony

Join Fordham Law School for its 28th Anniversary of the Group Admission Ceremony to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. 

The ceremony will take place at 8 AM on Monday, May 5, 2014 at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.  This is always a wonderful and memorable occasion at the Court.  It includes an appearance before the Court, a tour of the Supreme Court Building, and an official group photograph.

The 23rd Annual FSSF Auction

Don’t miss the 23rd Annual Fordham Student Sponsored Fellowship (FSSF) Auction! This event is the largest source of funding for student summer public interest work and brings together alumni, faculty, friends, and students for a lively evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, friendly conversation, and ruthless bidding wars. 

Come and have a “roaring” good time at the Auction on March 6th.  The evening begins at 6:00 p.m. with a silent auction in the Law School’s Platt Atrium. At 7:30 p.m. a rousing live auction hosted, once again, by Professor Ted Neustadt, will take place in the McNally Amphitheatre!

Corporate Compliance Institute July 7 – 11, 2014

The Corporate Compliance Institute (CCI) at Fordham University offers a one-week intensive training program at Fordham Law School, Lincoln Center Campus, on the fundamentals of corporate compliance and the role of a compliance officer.  Particular emphasis will be on the financial services sector.  Class sessions will include lectures and case studies run by Fordham professors and industry experts.  Each day will feature a luncheon with a keynote lecture delivered by a prominent compliance professional.

This program is geared toward junior compliance professionals and audit and risk management professionals looking to enhance their skills and knowledge, and others with law or business experience seeking to enter the compliance field.  Participants may be from the US or abroad. CCI is directed by Mario DiFiore and Sean J. Griffith.

Cost is $4,000 per participant. The program fee includes instruction, materials, lunch and a welcoming reception.

Stein Scholars Conference Call: How to Transition from Private Firm to Nonprofit/Government Entity
The Stein Center is happy to announce our inaugural Stein Scholars Conference Call: How to Transition from Private Firm to Nonprofit/Government Entity. The call will feature five Stein Scholars graduates who have made the switch from private firms to nonprofit/government entities. The call will take place on Thursday, March 6 at 12:30 p.m.

Edward A. McCoyd ’68 has published a novel titled “Simpson’s Will”. Iit is currently available in e-book and paperback on

Carole A. Burns ’72 has been named Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Senior Lawyers section. She is also currently a volunteer with Nassau/Suffolk Law Services and assists with debt cases for low-income clients.

Leslie Corwin ’73 has joined Blank Rome as equity partner. He has served as principal shareholder at Greenberg Traurig since 1998. He will be representing international and national law firms, investment banks, and hedge funds in disputes, mergers, acquisitions, and bankruptcies. 

Robert J. Bishop ’75 was featured on Crain’s New York Business, where his firm, Pitta Bishop DelGiorno & Giblin, was profiled in a recent issue.

Jeffrey Levin ’80 has joined LeClair Ryan as partner in the firm’s bank finance and real estate practice departments. He was previously partner at David Hutcher & Citron.

Linda J. Carpenter ’81 has received the 2013 Vanguard Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Bar Association. She was recognized for her distinguished record of achievement in the nonprofit sector. She is currently a professor emeritus at Brooklyn College and has authored 11 books.

Bernard P. Kennedy ’82 has joined Bond, Schoeneck & King, PLLC as co-managing member. He was previously at the firm Kennedy & Gillen.

Christine Cedare ’84 has joined the management committee at Bryan Cave as a section leader. She focuses on commercial litigation, including class actions. 

Robert M. Hanna ’84 has been confirmed by the New Jersey State Senate for the New Jersey Superior Court. He was previously president of the Board of Public Utilities.

Hon. Mark C. Dillon ’84 has been profiled by The New York Law Journal. In the profile, he discusses his recent book, “The Montana Vigilantes: 1863-1870: Gold, Guns, and Gallows”, which was published in December 2013. For more information, click here.

Michael Graham ’86 has formed his own intellectual property law firm, Gnosis lP Law P.C, which will focus on intellectual property and entertainment law. He was previously a partner at Marshall, Gerstein & Borun LLP.  He is also currently an adjunct professor with DePaul University College of Law.

Daniel J. Healy ’88 has been promoted to partner at Anderson Kill in Washington DC. He has previously worked for the U.S Department of Justice and has received numerous awards including three Outstanding Attorney’s awards.

Bruce Londa ’88 has been named chair of the Norris McLaughlin Intellectual Property Group. He was previously managing partner at Londa & Gluck LLP.

Rev. Edward Scharfenberger ’90 has been selected by Pope Francis to become the new bishop of the Diocese of Albany, NY. He has been a lawyer for over two decades and has been a prominent leader in the Diocese of Brooklyn.

Barbara J. Hart ’92 has been named Chair of the New York State Bar Association’s Antitrust section.  She is also currently the chief operating officer at Lowey Dannenberg Cohen & Hart.

Yasho Lahiri ’92 has joined Sutherland Asbill & Brennan as partner for the Financial Services Practice. He was previously a partner at Baker Botts.

Calvin Siemer ’93 has been promoted to Vice President and General Counsel for the Venetian and Palazzo Casino Resort Hotels.

Allison Brody ’94 has been promoted to deputy counsel at Reed Elsevier, where she will focus on privacy.

Kevin Fullington ’98 has joined Herrick Feinstein as partner. He will focus on government relations.

Maria Groeneveld ’99 has been promoted to partner at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron where she will focus on corporate and real estate.

Harlyn Bohensky '00 has joined Bingham McCutchen as partner and will be a member of the Structured Transactions Group. His practice will focus on the areas of structured finance and securitization.

Ryan Whalen ’00 and Gillian Tullman ’01 were married on Saturday February 22 at the Harvard Club in New York City. The bride is a senior vice president and director of marketing at Weiss Multi-Strategy Advisors, and the groom is a partner at Brown & Whalen.

James Carenza ’01 has been named counsel for Greenberg Traurig. He is a member of the Real Estate Practice Group and will focus on general commercial real estate issues.

Marc Friess ’01 has been elected to partner at Schulte Roth & Zabel in the firm’s finance group.

Yariv Katz ’01 has been elected to partner at Paul Hastings and will focus on corporate law.

Josh Krakowsky ’01 has been promoted to senior counsel business litigator at Davidoff Hutcher & Citron.

Jeffrey P. Laner ’02 has joined the Long Island Railroad as in-house counsel. He previously served as associate general counsel at the Battery Park City Authority.

Robert W. DiUbaldo ’04 has been promoted to partner at Edwards Wildman Palmer. He will be located in the firm’s insurance and reinsurance department.

Karen Lim ’04 has been elected to partner at Zelnick Lehrman & Zissu, where she will focus on trademarks and intellectual property. She also serves on the Board of Directors of the Asian American Bar Association of New York.

John Owens, Jr ’04 has been appointed as Principal Court Attorney to the Honorable Robert R. Reed of the New York State Supreme Court. 

Jennifer Rosa ’04 has been promoted to counsel at Mayer Brown, where she will focus on litigation and dispute resolution.

Alvina Patel ’05 has been appointed by the New Jersey Supreme Court as a Child Support Hearing Officer for the Superior Court of New Jersey.

John Beatty ’06 and his wife, Whitney, welcomed home their newborn son, Bennett Gallagher. Beatty is currently an attorney at Kramer Dillof Livingston & Moore.

Gregory M. Morison ’06 has joined the New York City Housing Authority as a agency attorney.

George Mocsary ’09 has joined the faculty of Southern Illinois University School of Law as an Assistant Professor of Law.

Mary Buschman-Kelly ’10 has become a Fixed Income Analyst at Magnetar Capital. She is also a member of the New York City Bar Association Art Law Committee.

Sarah W. Fitzgerald ’10 has joined Thompson & Knight as an associate in the Employment and Labor Practice Group. She previously served as a judicial intern to the Honorable William Pauley III in 2009.

Nicole Soriano ’11 has joined Hutner Klarish LLP. She was previously an associate at Arent Fox.

Faris Elrabie ’12 has accepted a position as a corporate associate at Kirkland & Ellis LLP. He was previously an associate with Hahn & Hessen LLP.
