FLAA Affinity Groups

Tax Affinity Group
We have received almost 100 positive responses from alums since announcing the formation of a tax affinity group in last month’s edition of the Insider!  The Tax Affinity Group will be holding a kick-off event at 6 PM on Tuesday, January 28, 2013 at the Law School.  We would like to make an additional call for participants as we begin to plan our 2014 agenda.

The tax affinity group hopes to gather Fordham Law alumni and current students active, or interested, in the Tax field to facilitate greater connection among alumni in this field.  We are looking for alums of all ages and from all areas of tax.  If you are interested in joining but have not yet contacted us, please contact Brian Power ’07.  Also, don’t forget to join the Tax Affinity LinkedIn group here.

Government Affinity Group
A group of alumni are looking to form an affinity group comprised of those with experience working in federal, state, and city-level positions. The goal is to share insights on how best to navigate careers in government. We hope to plan social events throughout the year and facilitate discussions on a variety of topics specific to government attorneys.

If you are interested in joining the group and/or being part of the steering committee, please contact John Owens Jr. ’04.

Compliance Affinity Group
A group of alumni are seeking to create a compliance affinity group. The group would facilitate interactions among alumni in this growing area.  Please email Jennifer Juste ’06 if you are interested in becoming involved.

Feerick Center: Volunteer Opportunities

The Feerick Center for Social Justice invites you to attend information sessions to learn about volunteer opportunities in programs coordinated by the Center:

The first program, taking place on Tuesday, January 21 at 6:30 PM in Room 430, will describe the LEEAP program which places attorneys, or non-attorney volunteers, with community based organizations and middle or high schools in Manhattan and the Bronx. This portion of the LEEAP program assists students of low-income families in applying for admission to high schools and colleges. For more information, email palabi@fordham.edu or call 212-636-7715.

The second program, taking place on Monday, February 3 at 6:00 PM in Room 430, will be a volunteer fair for attorneys interested in learning more about the Attorney Emeritus Program in New York State (AEP).  The AEP is an initiative of New York Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman that matches attorney’s age 55 and older, who have a minimum of 10 years experience, with pro bono legal services providers in need of volunteers.  Representatives from several legal service providers will be available to discuss opportunities available, time commitment, and level of representation.  For more information, email nmacri2@fordham.edu or call 212-930-8871.
