Fordham Law School’s Supreme Court Admission Ceremony

Join Fordham Law School for its 27th Anniversary of the Group Admission Ceremony to the Bar of the United States Supreme Court. 

The ceremony will take place at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Supreme Court in Washington, D.C.  This is always a wonderful and memorable occasion at the Court.  It includes an appearance before the Court, a tour of the Supreme Court Building, and an official group photograph.

Join Fordham Law in Ireland this Summer and Receive CLE!

Fordham Law School’s Belfast/Dublin Summer Program will again offer CLE credit to alumni. Classes will be held from June 3rd – 13th in Belfast and from June 17th – 21st in Dublin.

Alumni may attend ANY of the classes held in EITHER city. The program offers three different courses: International Conflict Resolution, International Human Rights, and Limits on Intellectual Property in the U.S. and EU. Learn more.

CLE credit is offered at ONLY $25 for every credit-hour in the classroom. Alumni may attend as many or as few classes as they wish. Classes will be held on each weekday from June 3rd – 21nd, except June 19th. In addition to classes, alumni are welcomed to attend any of the extracurricular events held from June 2nd – July 2nd. Assistant Dean Mike Schiumo will be joining the program this year. Alumni may also arrange to join Mike and the program solely for a tour of the Four Courts on June 19th and dinner at the King’s Inns on June 20th.

CLE: Center on National Security: 21st Century Warfare: Law, the Enemy, and the Battlefield

Please join The Center on National Security at Fordham Law School for an all-day conference entitled “21st Century Warfare: Law, the Enemy, and the Battlefield,” on March 18, 2013.

Keynote Speaker: Jeh Johnson, Former General Counsel, Department of Defense
The conference will explore the legal authorities for war, the expanding definitions of the ‘enemy’, the evolution of the battlefield, including drone killings and cyber warfare, and the implications of these changes going forward.  We will bring together political and military leaders, national security and cyber experts, leading journalists, and others to provide a platform for understanding the next phase of America’s international ‘war on terror’ and, in a larger sense, the future of warfare.

The event is free and open to the public.

LAWYERS ONLY:  The fee for New York CLE Credit is $95 ($65 for Fordham Law alumni, academics and public interest attorneys).  This conference is appropriate for newly admitted and experienced attorneys and is approved for a maximum of 6.5 transitional and non-transitional credit hours.  Fordham Law School's financial aid policy for accredited CLE programs is applicable to this conference.

Feerick Center: Attorney Emeritus Program

The Feerick Center for Social Justice has been assisting Chief Judge Jonathan Lippman’s NYS Attorney Emeritus program that engages attorney's 55 and older in meeting the civil legal needs of New Yorkers who cannot afford counsel. The Feerick Center is co-sponsoring a program at the New York City Bar (42 West 44th Street) on Wednesday, June 5 at 5:00 PM for you to learn more about opportunities for service through AEP and to speak with representatives of 20 or more organizations who welcome experienced volunteers.

Class Notes

Bob Alpert ’68 has joined the Atlanta law firm of Morris, Manning & Martin LLP as Senior Counsel to assist the firm in implementing a Crisis Management Response Practice.  Bob was most recently President of ICALM Group, a Chapel Hill, NC litigation management and catastrophe response organization.

John Fried ’71, formerly a name partner of Fried & Epstein, has joined Flaster/Greenberg as a shareholder.
Hon. Robert Mulroy ’83 was appointed to the Family Court in January 2013. Prior to his appointment, he was a solo practitioner specializing in family law and was a Support Magistrate and subsequently Deputy Chief Magistrate of New York State Family Court. Judge Mulroy resides in Queens.

Andrew M. Calamari ’85 has been named Director of the Securities and Exchange Commission’s New York Regional Office. Calamari joined the SEC staff in 2000 and has been serving as Acting Director of the New York office since the promotion of George Canellos to Deputy Director of the Division of Enforcement earlier this year. Hon. Peter Passidomo ’85 was appointed as a Family Court Judge in July 2012. He served with the New York State Unified Court System in various capacities including as Chief Court Attorney to the Administrative Judge of Family Court, Family Law Advisor to the Chief Administrative Judge, Chief Family Court Magistrate, and Chief Clerk of the New York City Family Courts. Judge Passidomo resides in the Bronx.

Michael P. Kandler ’88 has joined Goldberg Segalla LLP as a partner in the law firm’s White Plains office. Kandler is a member of the firm’s Global Insurance Services and Appellate Practice Groups.

Steve Lester ’89 has been appointed as Legal Counsel to the Town Board of the Town of Hempstead, New York.  He has held this position since 2000.  Steve also has been elected to the Board of Trustee of the South Nassau Unitarian Universalist Congregation (SNUUC) in Freeport, New York, where he will serve as its Vice President.  This is Steve's fourth three-year term on the SNUUC Board of Trustees, where he previously served as President and Vice President.

Larry Schneider ’93 was awarded the Assistant Attorney General's Award for Distinguished Service for his role in the prosecution of two Iraqi terrorists in the United States (U.S. v. Alwan, et al.).  He is a trial attorney in the Counterterrorism Section of the U.S. Department of Justice.  Earlier in 2012, he was a member of the trial team that successfully prosecuted Naser Jason Abdo in Waco, Texas for his attempt to detonate a bomb and kill U.S. soldiers.

Dorit Kressel ’94, of Wolf & Samson, has been selected by NJBIZ its 2013 list of “New Jersey’s Best 50 Women in Business.” Each year, NJBIZ identifies "New Jersey's most dynamic and distinguished women in business,” based on their professional accomplishments, community involvement and advocacy for women. Kressel and her fellow 2013 honorees will be saluted on March 21, 2013 at an awards ceremony and reception at The Palace at Somerset Park, in Somerset, NJ.

Jill Marie Ho Tai ’94 will serve as senior vice president for BankUnited’s commercial real estate lending team in New York. Ho Tai has 20 years of banking industry experience, most recently as an administrative vice president for M&T Bank’s New York commercial real estate department. To read more, click here.

Kevin M. McDonough ’95 has become a named partner at Stein Riso Mantel McDonough, LLP, continuing to concentrate in matrimonial law.

Michael Faro ’96 and his wife, Emily, welcomed a baby girl, Julia, on March 5, 2013.

Christopher B. Spuches ’96 has been elected partner at Ehrenstein Charbonneau Calderin in the firm’s Dispute Resolution Group.

Hon. Joanne Quiñones ’97 was first appointed as an Interim Civil Court Judge in September 2010. She was subsequently appointed to the Criminal Court in January 2011.  Prior to her appointment, she served as a Court Attorney in Supreme, Criminal, and Civil Court. She was also with the Legal Aid Society’s Criminal Defense Division. Judge Quiñones resides in Brooklyn.

Jodi B. Ganz ’98 has joined Belfer Management LLC, a single-family office, as Chief Operating Officer and General Counsel.  She was previously Managing Director, General Counsel and Chief Compliance Officer of GCP Capital Partners LLC, a mid-market private equity firm.

Beth Clark ’99 has been elected special counsel at Stroock & Lavan.

Robert Cosgrove ’99 and his wife Simone welcomed their son, Declan Alistair, on December 4, 2012.  He joins Aidan (9), Scarlett (6) and Xavier (3).

Maziel E. Abrego LL.M. ’00 has been named president of the New York chapter of the Legal Marketing Association. Abrego, a former practicing lawyer in her native Panama, is a senior manager of marketing and client services with Troutman Sanders LLP. She oversees work on business development, marketing projects, and public relations and communications for the New York office of the Atlanta-based firm.

Mauro Viskovic ’00 has opened a corporate and securities law boutique, Viskovic LLC, in Midtown Manhattan.  His practice includes a wide variety of general corporate and securities law matters, including the structuring, negotiation and documentation of mergers and acquisitions, corporate finance, purchase/sale transactions, joint venture, partnership, shareholder, limited liability company and commercial transactions/agreements.

Aaron Zerykier ’02 has been promoted to counsel at Farrell Fritz.

Jason Sobel ’03 has been elected special counsel at Stroock & Lavan.

Cara Greene ’05 has been elected partner at employment firm Outten & Golden.

Josephine Liu ’05 has been promoted to of counsel at Axinn, Veltrop & Harkrider.

Charles Clemens Herschel ’07 and Kent Richard Gould were married February 8, 2013 at Frankies 457, a restaurant in Brooklyn. Herschel is a lawyer and a legal manager in the Manhattan office of American Express, negotiating contracts with businesses that use the company’s electronic payment processing.To read more, click here.

James D. Mandolfo ’07 has joined the Orlando, FL office of U.S. Attorney Robert E. O’Neill. Mandolfo is assigned to the Criminal Division. Before joining the office. Mandolfo practiced law with the firm of Hunton & Williams LLP, in Miami, where he represented clients in a wide array of complex securities and commercial litigation. To read more, click here.
