News and RemindersSandra Day O'Connor and Judith S. Kaye on Nation's Judiciary
Two of the nation's most eminent female judges shared their wisdom on the judiciary and legal profession on April 17, in a conversation held at Fordham Law School.
Sandra Day O'Connor, former associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, and Judith S. Kaye, former chief judge of the New York Court of Appeals, weighed in on everything from the integrity of appointed vs. elected judges, to women in the law.
The hour long conversation was moderated by John D. Feerick '61, the Sydney C. Norris Professor of Law, whose own work on judicial selection in New York State served as a point of departure for a discussion of a legal conundrum: does appointing, rather than electing, judges make for a less corrupt judiciary? President Bill Clinton Visits Fordham Law Forum
President Bill Clinton joined Thane Rosenbaum, the John Whelan Distinguished Lecturer in Law at Fordham Law School, for a wide-ranging conversation at the Time Warner Center on April 19, 2012. The event was sponsored by the Forum on Law, Culture & Society at Fordham Law and marked the first time since 1969 that a current or former U.S. president made an appearance at a Fordham event.
"In terms of attendance, this Forum event topped both the 2010 Forum Film Festival screening with Supreme Court Associate Justice Sonia Sotomayor and Conversation with Alec Baldwin," said Rosenbaum.
"Tickets sold out in under 30 minutes, and Forum fans filled two of Time Warner's auditoriums while nearly 1,000 joined the waitlist for a chance to hear President Clinton."
