Job ExperienceDr. Silvia Hodges Silverstein helps law firms and legal departments become more efficient. She focuses on data-aided decision-making and client decisions, in particular the influence of procurement on the purchasing of legal services. Silvia is the author of many articles on law firm management including The Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics’ “I didn't go to law school to become a salesperson” [ADD LINK: https://articleworks.cadmus.com/geolaw/zs000213.html] and wrote the books “Buying Legal: Procurement Insights and Practice” and “Winning Legal Business from Medium-Sized Companies.”
She co-authored a Harvard Business School case study on GSK’s legal procurement initiative [ADD LINK: http://hbr.org/product/glaxosmithkline-sourcing-complex-professional-services/an/414003-PDF-ENG].
Silvia has been working with law firms in Europe and the US and conducted a number of studies on clients’ buying behavior in Europe (Germany, UK, France, Italy), Latin America (Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Peru), and the US.
She earned her PhD at Nottingham Law School (UK) and holds a master’s degree in business from Universität Bayreuth (Germany) and Warwick Business School (UK) as well as an undergraduate degree in economics from Universität Bayreuth (Germany).
Silvia was awarded the American Marketing Association’s Liam Glynn Research Scholarship and a PhD scholarship from the German Department of Education and Research. She is a fellow of the College of Law Practice Management.
